Mondo Grass, also known as fountain plant and monkey grass, refers to the species of perennial evergreen plant that is native to Japan. It is a popular ornamental grass that is commonly used to create a softer effect on lawns or yards with concrete surfaces such as concrete steps and stairs. There are also varieties that are used to decorate yards and gardens.

Mondo Grass has linear dark green leaves that are 20 to 40 centimeters in length and are fine to medium in texture, flowers that are white or pale lilac in color, and fruits that are 5 millimeter blue berries. The flowers and fruits emerge from July until September.

Mondo Grass thrives well on ordinary garden soil, and demands only minimum care and attention once the seeds have started to grow. Mondo Grass, or monkey grass, is usually light green in color when grown under filtered sunlight, while those grown under shady areas have dark green leaves.

The use of Mondo Grass for landscaping has been prevalent in the past few years because it is easy to grow and requires minimum maintenance. It is also considered by most gardening enthusiasts to be an efficient and elegant ground cover that can complement various garden styles. Although Mondo Grass is commonly used as ground cover, it also makes an attractive border for pathways, flower beds, and stepping stones.

General plant care and maintenance for Mondo Grass lawns include combing out dead leaves, removing other plants that have invaded or mingled into the lawn or garden, and occasional thinning to keep the garden lawns neat and tidy.

Mondo Grass has been a popular ornamental grass for many garden enthusiasts because of its elegant appearance and ability to blend with most garden styles. Mondo Grass is also easy to grow and requires minimum plant care, making it the perfect choice for garden enthusiasts who want beautiful landscaped gardens or yards that are easy to maintain.
